In this self-portrait, I sit captive by the day’s waning shadows imprisoning me in my yellow chair. Working in the mental health field, I felt overwhelmed by the failure of the systems built to protect and care for these individuals. This painting depicts my debilitating sense of powerlessness that impaired my ability to adequately care for myself and others.
